## cfg file as a command line option?

Feedback for Q Insight Pad usage

### cfg file as a command line option?

Would you consider adding a command line option to take different Servers.cfg files? Say we have different cfg files for end users, db admins, and developers. It's nice to have them on a shared and managed location and let users have shortcuts like

Thanks!

### Re: cfg file as a command line option?

Hi, Bayao!

While it's not a problem to do by itself - next questions rise: What if user will change it?

Making it readonly by means of attributes or permissions right now isn't an option - qpad likes to open it on write (because there's no server tree readonly mode designed).

I could do automatic import from specified place, but that will
1) overwrite user Servers.cfg with all possible changes that (s)he could've saved (local instances, etc.)
2) will be nothing more than copying file to Servers.cfg, overwriting it right beside qpad(64).exe (that's how Import is working right now from Context menu, BTW)

So, if it's acceptable - there's a simple alternative to changing qpad
Creating qpadUsers.bat in the same dir qpad is in looking like this:
Code: Select all
copy \\network\path\to\users.cfg .\Servers.cfgstart qpad64_rc8.exe %*

Which can be used in shortcut, will pass all parameters specified to the qpad (%*) and will release console window (start)

Cheers,
Oleg

Thanks for the quick reply, Oleg!
With your suggestion, I ended up with a little bit batch scripting that robocopy the executables and updates config lines between \tGLOBAL START and \tGLOBAL END with contents of a remote file based on args and keeps the rest.
