Feedback for Q Insight Pad usage

Feature Request: File State Watcher (or so)

Postby marc » Fri Sep 12, 2014 10:29 am

IMHO it would be nice if QPad would check if a file had been modified externally (and then offers to reload it).
Would be a great addition to a great product! :)

Second this. And it would also be good to have "Refresh" menu item under "View" and a keyboard shortcut (F5 for example) to re-read file from disk without waiting for the change to be detected. This would be handy for those who develop code using external editor and test it in QPad.

Thanks,
Andrei

Hi, Gents!

You are welcome to test this feature in the latest build - linked at the bottom of 1st post in this thread
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6

Let me know if that's what you wanted and if there are any problems.

Cheers,
Oleg

Excellent! Thanks a lot! I have only found one minor issue. If QPad prompts if the file should be reloaded and the user clicks on "Yes" then the file is being reloaded from disk, but then shown in the editor window as "modified" ("*" in the tab).

Hi, Marc!

Please try redownloading from the same place - should be fixed now (it seems you don't have typing delay in Editor settings defined - try to set it to 500ms or so, could make qpad editor less painfull, btw ;-)), also polished it a bit - trying to jump on the line we were before reload, etc.

Thank you!

Hi Oleg,

I just downloaded the current build and have a small issue with it. Whenever I save a file from within QPad I get the dialog showing up that this file changed on disk..

Best,
Marc

Hi, Marc!

Sorry about that and thank you for letting me know :) there was another cycle of testing/fixing during which half-backed version made its way to the stable devbuild location :).
Please try redownloading now - should be as good as I could make it.
Let me know about any issues you'll spot, appreciate you feedback.

Thank you!

Thanks for adding this feature. Works well for me. Just to make sure I'm not missing anything in the new functionality: there is no explicit way to pickup external changes, like a "Refresh" action in menu or a keyboard shortcut? I.e. the only way to pick up external changes is to wait for QPad to detect it and pop up the window, right?

Yes, Andrei, you are right.

That being said - qpad is picking up changes instantly (<0.5 s since they were made) for all open tabs, not only active one.
So, I decided not to add command which won't be used or will do nothing :)

Cheers,
Oleg
