Feature request: Command "execute definition"

Postby sannysanoff » Thu Dec 04, 2014 1:21 am

It would be VERY great to have "execute definition" command (with shortcut) to determine start/end of the function where cursor is and execute this part. Because currently it involves lots of extra keyboard movement when function is several lines long. As the start of the function is not indented, and the start of the next function is not indented, this can be used to determine function boundaries.

More complex approach is semantics-aware extending selection (see Ctrl+W in Jetbrains products) which extends the selection based on the language constructs, so first press would select whole @[ .. ], next press would select enclosing {[] ... } with args, if any, and so on until top-level definition "xx:{ .... };" is selected.

best regards and thanks for great product,
Alex.

Hi, Alex!

I'll think about maybe making something along those lines, but for now there's some shortcut you may find useful, it's Ctrl+] - jumps to the other (highlighted) bracket when your cursor on matching one. By pressing Ctrl+Shift+], you'll select all between and including brackets.

Also, if you right-click on function name in Namespace explorer tree and pick Get source - qpad will open new source pane with that function name and definition assignment. You can patch whatever you want there and press Ctrl+E without selecting anything - this, in turn, will execute whole pane contents, effectively applying your patch back to instance.

Not sure if all that mentioned in the viewtopic.php?f=4&t=517 post, but some of it could be ;-). Feel free to give it a read, you could find some useful shortcuts there.

Cheers,
Oleg
